What is a Morkie like?

Morkie is a cross between a Yorkie and a Maltese.  As cute as they are, Morkies are not suitable for every family.  The most suitable owner is someone who can either take the Morkie to work or is a stay-at-home-parent, according to PetGuide.  Morkies attach to their people quickly, and do not like to be left alone.

He will bark until someone comes home.  Yes, separation anxiety here.  Also because of their size, Morkies are more suitable for families with older children who would look where they are stepping.  And also because of their size, even though they like to cuddle up to you in bed, reconsider letting them sleep in your bed.  Rolling over in the middle of the night can be a bad thing for the little Morkie.

Morkies get along with other small cats and dogs.  Being around a bigger dog presents the same issue–be careful where the big dog steps.  Morkies requires moderate exercise.  A walk in the morning and another one in the evening is sufficient to keep him healthy, plus playtime, where he chases a ball up and down the hall.

If you are training a Morkie, the best way is encouragement, lots of tasty treats and praising him with excitement in your voice.  They do not do well with criticism.  If they don’t get enough exercise, they can get bored and can become destructive.  They can easily rip couch cushions to shred.  Never underestimate the size of a dog and their power.   You can read more about Morkies here.
