Bulldogs have sweet temperament, even though their body (and that big head) may look intimidating.  If you are thinking about getting a Bulldog, here are some tidbits that may help you in your decision process.   I remember reading that for some dog breeds, it’s better to wait until the puppy is more mature before allowing them to put much weight on their joints, such as running on concrete.  Since Bulldogs’ legs are supporting quite a load, it might be wise to have them run on softer surface, such as sand or dirt until they are more mature in order to prevent injury.

What are Bulldogs like?

According to Michele Welton on Your Pure Bred Puppy, when Bulldogs are puppies, they are frisky.  As adults, they enjoy lying on our sofas more.    They do need some exercise to stay healthy and fit.  Walking in cool weather is good for them.  They don’t do well in heat.  If it’s hot outside, keep them comfortable in air-condition.

Bulldogs do shed.  When you pet them, you’ll see some on your hand.  They stay on your clothes, your carpet, your furniture.  Just know this if you are thinking about getting a Bulldog.  Because of the anatomy of their face, even though they don’t bark much, they do make other noises like snorting, grunting.  And snoring!   Some owners find these sounds endearing.  And they slobber.  If they shake after they drink water, be prepared to towel yourself off.  Bulldogs can also be gassy.  If they have a natural diet with real meat and fresh food, the flatulence problem is less.  You can read more about English Bulldogs here.
