The PitBull dad in this video is playing lovingly with his puppy son. He see that his son wants to play. So he happily entertains the little guy for the afternoon. More people are actively educating others about PitBulls, and this friendly dog is becoming more popular once again as a companion pet, shares Pet Md. Their love of people actually makes them a good candidate as therapy dog.

Characteristics of a PitBull

So, what a PitBulls like? They are playful, and are very affectionate with children. That’s why they are also known as the “nanny dog.” They have a strong desire to please people. They are not naturally aggressive toward people. It would be a good idea to socialize them as early as possible so that they are comfortable around other dogs. PitBulls have a prey drive, so when you take them for a walk, they need to be on a leash. Otherwise, if they see something chase-worthy, off they go.

Dental Chews for Dogs

PitBull’s loves to cuddle with you. Even after they have reached their adult size, which can be up to 85 pounds, they continue to believe themselves to be lap dogs. Isn’t that endearing? Even though they will announce a visitor, they are not guard dog in the least. In fact, new owners of PitBulls worry that their dogs are too friendly to be any kind of good watch dog. They are too eager to greet people. Even though they don’t make a good guard dog, when it comes to their beloved family, they will protect them courageously, even protecting their family with their life. PitBulls need to be exercised for about an hour a day. They are athletes and are active dogs. You can walk them, play with them, or exercise them during this time. They do need this exercise. You can read more about PitBulls here. Enjoy watching this sweet moment between father and son.

The Bernese Mountain puppy in this video keeps pulling on Mom’s shirt. This puppy behavior continues longer for this breed than other breeds. So they remain puppy-like for perhaps even the first 3 to 4 years. It takes longer for this breed to mature.

During their puppy years, they are highly active, more rambunctious, and mouthy. They may nip or bite in play, harmless, but may be scary for a young child. On the other hand, matching a young child and an active puppy can be a good match in energy level. Be sure YOU have the energy for an extended period of puppyhood if you are thinking about getting a Bernese Mountain Dog.

Characteristics of a Bernese Mountain dog

Dental Chews for Dogs

According to Vetstreet, when they are properly socialized, they are calm and patient. And because their origin is a working dog, they are confident too. He is a good watch dog, and not aggressive. His personality traits actually make him a good candidate for a therapy dog. His temperament meets the qualification, and he is just the right height to stand next to a hospital bed to be petted.

Because of their origin as working dog, Mountain Bernese can be a bit cautious. If not socialized, they can border on being shy, or suspicious of anything that feels different to them. They are sensitive to noise, especially shrill cries. So socialize them as early as possible to unusual sounds, sights, people.

If you are getting one from a breeder, make sure it is a breeder socialize them well before letting you take them home. Even after you bring one home, keep socializing them. Take them to dog friendly businesses. Enroll them in puppy kindergarten. When they are adults, they can weigh from 70 to 120 pounds, even more. So train them while they are still a smaller, manageable size. You can learn more about Mountain Bernese here. If you enjoy this video, you might also like this one.

The Maltese puppy in this video plays fetch all by himself. He throws the bon up in the air, then hops to fetch it. Such a delightful person. And affectionate too. Maltese is adored for his expressive eyes and cute face, just like the one in this video.

If you are charmed by this bright and playful Toy breed, here are some things to think about before you bring one home. Michele Welton on Your Pure Bred Puppy shares that Maltese don’t shed much. This is good news for those who are allergic to dogs. But spend some time first around Maltese if this is your main reason for getting one. Shedding little does not mean hypoallergenic.

What is a Maltese like?

Maltese is a Toy breed. Even though they get along with everyone, they are best not matched with families with very young children. It’s very easy for a young child to flop down on a bed without checking first if the Maltese is lying under the blanket. And if the Maltese decides to jump down from your arms or from the back of a sofa, that can injure him seriously.

Maltese needs your company

They don’t like to be left alone for more than a few hours at a time. And if they do, they can bark a lot or chew on things you don’t want them to chew on. If you are away from home a lot, the people loving Maltese may not be the best choice.

Dental Chews for Dogs

And if you have a fenced yard, you have to make sure that the little Maltese cannot wiggle through the fence and escape. This breed also tends to alert you to every new sight and sound. It’s wise to train them as early as possible to stop barking immediately when you ask them to. If you live in a noise-restricted building, and you are away from home, this is something to consider before bringing home a Maltese.

You can read the article here. Enjoy watching this fun loving Maltese pup entertain himself. The image may look like he’s sticking out his tongue at us. But it was just the camera capturing the exact second his tongue was hanging out. If you like this video, you may also enjoy watching this sleepy Maltese.

The Havanese puppies in this video are chewing on Mom’s fingers. Let’s hope their teeth aren’t sharp yet. Havanese is a charming dog whose joy in life is to be with you and make you laugh. She loves your company, and does not like to be left alone for a long time. She is actually pretty quiet for a small dog, according to Vetstreet.

What are Havanese like?

If you are thinking about getting a Havanese, they do require brushing everyday to maintain that beautiful coat. Havanese don’t shed much, but that doesn’t mean they are hypoallergenic. If you are allergic to most dogs, spend time with some Havanese first, and see if your allergy acts up before you bring one home. This is a breed who loves to play with children. Just make sure that the children don’t play too rough with them. As with all dogs, teach children how to respect and approach them.

Is Havanese the right dog for you?

Dental Chews for Dogs

Havanese is a great companion dog. Even though they are small, they are not yappy. And they have a deeper voice, like a big dog. They make good travel companions too. If you are seeing the country in an RV, this would be a good dog to bring with you. This wonderful companion can read your emotions and will adjust to your mood. She is happy to follow you around and adjust to your lifestyle, your schedule. She loves to please you, and appreciates the attention she gets when she does funny things.

This is a clown at heart. Because her temperament is so cheerful and loving, the Havanese makes a good therapy dog. They are happy to settle in your lap. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t energetic. They can play for hours, if you have the energy to keep up with her. Enjoy watching these 2 adorable Havanese puppies.

The tiny Shih Tzu puppy in this video is playing with Mom. He is so adorable when he rests on Mom’s arm, and fell off onto the floor. Soon, those little legs will get a bit longer. The lively and playful Shih Tzu is a family companion. They are gentle with children. If your puppy grows up with young children right from the start, they will do fine with the high energetic play of children. If introduced to the young children at a later time, they may not appreciate the high energy play as much, according to Pet MD.

What are Shih Tzu’s like?

Shih Tzu are affectionate with their family, as long as they treat her the same way. If there’s any mistreatment, they can get a bit skittish. Even though they love to play and romp, they can at times be a lapdog, to a milder degree.

They do need exercise everyday. A walk in the neighborhood or in the park would be fine. And if the weather is not good outside, playing fetch indoor can take help to take care of that energy. When the weather is nice outside, they may enjoy riding in a basket when you go biking, so they can catch the breeze in their face.

The Shih Tzu has a short muzzle. so it’s not very tolerant of hot temperature. Also because of its short nose, it’s easy to get water into their nostrils when they drink water. Some people use a water bottle as a solution.

Pet MD suggests that the Shih Tzu might be kept as an indoor dog for a couple of reasons. As their hair gets longer, they can get dirty easily and matted. Unless you intend your dog as a show dog, you might consider haircuts that are easier to manage. Another reason to keep your Shih Tzu as an indoor dog is because it has a tendency to bark. And bark for a long time. They were bred to be palace watchdogs. So they are merely doing their job.

Enjoy watching this little Shih Tzu spending time with family. You can learn more about the Shih Tzu here.

Video of a Lhasa Apso puppy who found happy ever after with his second family. Here are reasons why dogs sometimes get re-homed.

The post [VIDEO] Lhasa Apso Diesel’s First Year With His Family appeared first on Doggie Outpost.

The second time is a charm. This Lhasa Apso’s first family didn’t quite work out for him. At 9-weeks-old, Diesel found his happily ever after home. His second family drove 3 1/2 hours (one way) to pick him up. Totally worth that 7 hour round-trip drive on a Monday night. From the video, we can tell what a well-loved dog Diesel is. His parents took photos of all of Diesel’s first’s. First doggie bed, first cat toy, first walk (he was actually carried in his parent’s arms), first photo shoot, first Valentine’s Day…

When to find a dog a different home

Even with a dog as cute as Diesel, and a Lhasa Apso at that, things may not work out for one reason or another. Sometimes maybe the family has children who are too rough with a dog, or taking care of a puppy takes more time than the family anticipated, and they find out after the fact that the time commitment is actually beyond what they had planned for. It’s actually better to find a different home for a dog in this situation sooner than later.

Dental Chews for Dogs

Often you can get help from wherever you got the puppy. They also want to see the dog in a home where everything is working out fine. Sometimes families need to “return” a dog that they got for very practical reasons. Some call it “re-home.”

I know of a family who had 2 older dogs, and they adopted a rescue puppy who has high energy, and who wants to play with the older dogs all the time. One of the dogs was annoyed, even showed his teeth at the puppy. The other dog is good-natured and accommodated the little one, but the puppy just wore him out. The parents were heart-broken to return the puppy after many months, but he found a different family that was the perfect match. They love his high energy, and their other dog is a perfect match for the new family member. Enjoy watching Diesel’s first year.

It takes so little to make a dog happy. The mini Labradoodle puppy in this video is busy entertaining himself. And he looks quite content chewing on a rope toy. The camera doesn’t distract him from his concentration at all. Labradoodle is a cross between Labrador Retriever and Poodle.

Do shelters have pure bred dogs?

When you mix two breeds, you can’t predict which characteristics the puppy will get. He might get more Lab in him than Poodle in appearance. Or he might get more Poodle temperament than Lab. Many who are looking for Labradoodles are likely to search for breeders or puppies for sales. Before you do, do consider another option.

It is surprising that 25% of dogs in shelters are Purebred. They are not there because they are undesirable dogs. Some dogs in shelters might have just gotten lost, and their identification is not traceable. Some might have just lost their owners who just passed on. For whatever reasons, the advantages of adopting an adult dog from a shelter are many, according to Adopt A Pet.

Dental Chews for Dogs

When you bring home a puppy, you spend a great deal of time training it, including housebreaking, teething, socializing them, puppy proof your home. And if you have young children, while the puppies are teething, you’ll need to pay extra attention because those puppy teeth are pretty sharp.

With adult dogs, their personality is already developed, so you don’t have to wonder how they turn out. Also, they are most likely already housebroken. If any of them need training, there are foster families who spend time preparing the rescue dog for adoption. Most involved with rescue work are volunteers. They are very dedicated to giving every dog a chance for a loving home. And people who adopt adult dogs do notice a bond that form very quickly. These dogs appreciate having a family again. You can read more about this topic here.

Puppies tilting their heads to music. Isn’t that just the most delightful thing to see? The 5 Malamute puppies in this video are listening to a song with a lot of bell tones. It’s actually a pretty song. These beautiful puppies will someday grow into strong large dogs, intended originally for heavy work. For now, these little ones are affectionate and full of life.

They do have a chewing habit. So if you are away from home, put the puppy in a space where he can’t get to your favorite shoes. Unless you have a big yard (a fenced yard) for them to exercise, you’ll have to ease them into using a leash. And you are going to hear arguments from them about it, according to AKC. They are very intelligent, so they’ll learn quickly that having to use a leash is a tolerable trade for getting to go on walks with you everyday. As he grows larger, he will need a lot of exercise. They crave exercises.

Characteristics of Malamutes

When they become adults, Malamutes are majestic, self-confident, and strong-willed. That’s why socializing them from a young age to feel comfortable with all people and other dogs. It’s not uncommon for them to be intolerant of dogs the same gender, so exercise caution when you introduce your Malamute to other dogs, however big or small they are.

Dental Chews for Dogs

Malamutes are fond of children. Because of their size, it is wise to supervise when they are around children. Another interesting aspect of Malamutes is that they howl. When they feel lonely, when they feel bored, or when they hear a siren.

Apartments may not be the ideal space, since they might get bored and start howling. Then when you come home, you have to face a bunch of annoyed neighbors. Malamutes also love to dig. It’s part of their nature, so if you have a prized garden, make sure to create a designated place in the yard so your Malamute has his OWN garden to dig in.

Enjoy watching these Malamute move their heads to music.

This Pug speaks with words AND paws! He is either having a conversation with the camera or the videographer. It’s understandable that if this little one has never seen a camera before, and his owner’s face cannot be seen behind that camera, it can be a bit disconcerting. As the puppy reaches out and gets no response, he gets increasingly annoyed, and starts letting the camera know what he thinks of it.

How to care for a Pug’s breathing

Pugs do make interesting noises. Someone asks a question on Pet Pug Dog about what kind of noise is normal for a Pug and what kind of noise should we be concerned about. The noises they make is part of what makes a Pug endearing to us. Even if we just heard that same noise this morning, it still amuses us. And coming out of that comical face makes it better.

Dental Chews for Dogs

Because of the way a Pug’s head and snout is shaped, it is normal for them to catch their breath from time to time. When it gets too hot, a Pug will start panting because he gets overheat very quickly. Or, if it’s hot and humid, and they ran around or walk too long, this can happen too. Take them out of the heat immediately and have them stay in a cool place. Give them water.

If you live in a hot area, exercise your Pug in the cooler morning or evening, not in the heat of the day. If a Pug burps, it may be because of the food he is eating or maybe he is eating too fast. Try removing one of the vegetables and see if that takes care of things. Another idea is to buy a slow-eat bowl or put a portion pacer to the bowl they have. This will slow down their eating, and they will gulp down less air. If they burp a lot, tell your vet how often it is happening. It could point to something that requires attention. You can read the entire article here. If you enjoy this Pug video, you might also enjoy this one.

In this video, we get to witness a sweet Pitbull father playing with his puppy. He is so good playing tug with the energetic puppy. Even when he’s tired and rather be left alone, he lets his puppy do the mouthy thing. The owner probably recognizes the need for the Pitbull dad to have some downtime, so he gives some special attention to dad. Toward the end of the video, we see a sweet scene of the puppy sleeping on his dad.

The American Pitbull Terrier is a family and companion dog. Its role has evolved over the years, from a bait to bulls to farm dogs to nanny dogs, according to Dog Time. They were called nanny dogs because they are so gentle with children. They are very loyal to their adopted family and protective of them.

What are PitBulls like?

Like many big dogs, they don’t know that they aren’t lap dogs. Pitbulls love people. They’ll let you know that there are strangers approaching because they want to greet the guests, which makes them not the best guard dogs. However, they will protect their family with their lives. They are very loyal.

Pitbulls love children. They are sweet and loving. They are also very tolerant. And they’ve got the energy to be great playmates for children. Like any dogs, always teach children how to approach and respect dogs. They should not be pulling on the ears and tails of dogs, or approach them when they are sleeping or eating, or try to take the dogs’ food away. These seem common sense to adults, but it’s important to demonstrate this to the young ones.

Like any other dogs, socialize Pitbull puppies so they become comfortable with new people, sights, sounds, and situations. Many Pitbulls are also friendly with cats and other dogs. You can read more about this breed here.
