In this video, the Bulldog puppy has a lot to say. His name is Bentley, and we get to listen to his lovely voice. It looks like Bentley wants something from his human mom, who doesn’t want to grant that wish. So Bentley voices his objection. And what a cute voice he has. He is quite sensible. When he sees that Mom is not giving in to him, he makes one last statement and walks away. A strong character!

This strong character was once required, as originally Bulldogs were bred to work with bulls, according to Pet MD. Once a tougher dog, now, through careful and select breeding, Bulldogs have become the docile and loving family pet that we know them to be. Many are now enjoying the company of the devoted Bulldog and the affection and warmth they bring.

Characteristics of Bulldogs

Bulldogs are known for their patience with children, as well as their affection for the little ones. They do fine with most family pets. Some may not like to be around dogs they don’t know. Most Bulldogs are pleasant toward strangers. And if not, the worst scenario is that they are simply indifferent.

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

They love to please us. At the same time, they do have an independent mind. Remember they used to work with bulls. So they need to have that independent thinking. And once they make up their mind, they honor their own judgment.

They need daily dental care. Start them early so they are accustomed to getting their teeth brushed, and even looking forward to it. Clean the folds around the face and the tail to make sure dirt don’t stay there. Otherwise, they may get skin infection. You can read more about how to care for the Bulldogs here.

Enjoy listening to Bentley insisting that Mom gives him what he wants, and how he deals with her refusal. If you enjoy this video, you might also enjoy this French Bulldog puppy video!

In this video, the French Bulldog puppies are waving and talking. Those waving paws are the most adorable gesture that puppies make intended to melt our heart. This is a breed that will bring you lots of laughter. They can be clownish. And just listen to their voice! They are livelier than they might look.

Puppies make it their job to chase balls. The adults also can clown around, perhaps with more dignity, and they can be professional couch potatoes. According to Michele Welton on Your Pure Bred Puppy, French Bulldogs can do well in apartments. They don’t need that much exercise, and they don’t bark much except to announce visitors. And many of them are friendly with everyone. Others will be politely reserved in the least. If you have a swimming pool at home, you might consider another breed. Frenchies cannot swim. They can drown.

Characteristics of a French Bulldog

If you are thinking about a French Bulldog, make sure you can accept several characteristics about him. He snorts, he snores, and is gassy. These come with the territory of having a short face.

Because of his short snout, his respiratory system is somewhat compromised. That means it really helps if you don’t smoke around him, don’t use any chemical in your cleaning products, keep him away from pollens, and away from freshly mowed grass.

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

Michele recommends that you find a vet that is experienced with short-snout dogs. If they need surgery, they need the most modern anesthetics, and you need to insist on a heart and blood pressure monitor. Many vets are not careful enough when anesthesizing short-snout dogs. Another caretaking step is to wash and dry the folds of his face after every meal. Yes, this is a lot of extra steps. And remember they snore. If you are able to go the extra mile to have this dog, consider adopting one from a rescue organization. The adults have already formed their personality, so you know who you are getting. A puppy is in the process of developing. There’s a lot more work involved when you get a puppy. You can read more about French Bulldogs here. Enjoy listening to these French Bulldogs talk.

The PitBulls in this video are so good with babies. Just look at how relaxed the babies are with them. Look at those smiles. This is no surprise because the Pit Bulls were known as the “nanny dog”. Robin Rock, who has rescued thousands of Pit Bulls, writes an article in PetFinder specifically about Pit Bulls.

She writes that Pit Bulls are relatively healthy. Dogs of any breed can inherit genetic issues. But Robin hasn’t seen too many Pit Bulls who are affected. Pit Bulls don’t need much grooming, although they love to be brushed. And they don’t need to be bathed that often. They don’t have a smell.

What are Pit Bulls like?

As far as grooming goes, Pit Bulls are low maintenance. Another trait about Pit Bulls is that they are very eager to please their human. They crave our attention. They want our approval. They’ll do anything to please their favorite person.

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

Pit Bull is a very social dog. If you have a Pit Bull in your home, you have made a friend for life. He is loyal. He loves his family and enjoys being a part of it. He is affectionate with adults and with children. (As with all dogs, teach children how to approach and respect dogs.)

Actually, this dog is so friendly toward people that he would not make a good guard dog. However, if someone threatens his family, he will step in to protect his loved ones. A Pit Bull is happiest when he is with us. And he loves to cuddle, and hug, and petted. This dog thinks he is a lap dog, however big he gets. Because of this side of them, and because they are so trainable, they make a good therapy dog. You can read more about Pit Bulls here. Enjoy these puppies!

What a cute voice he’s got! Bentley has a lovable and assertive personality. It must be fun to live in this household, having a talkative dog like Bentley. It’s not a bark, it sounds like he is trying to express how he feels. That’s the best part about having a talkative dog. And his strong character is a trait of Bulldogs that were once bred to fight bulls, hence the name Bulldogs.

What Bulldogs need

Through careful and selective breeding, this once tough dog has become a docile and loving pet, considered a cherished family member by those who appreciate his affection, warmth, and charm, according to PetMD. Bulldogs are devoted and patient. They are eager to please us. However, he also has an independent mind. He will keep his own counsel when he decides to do something.

Perhaps Bentley’s talking is an example. His parent may want him to be quiet, but he has something to say, and he would tell her. Bulldogs are very patient and affectionate with children, making them wonderful family pets.

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

They are pleasant with most strangers. And if they don’t care for the stranger, they’d simply be indifferent. They get along fine with other family pets, although some can be hostile to dogs that are unfamiliar to them.

As for health, make sure they are kept in comfortable temperature. Their respiratory system does not do well when they are overheat or over-excited. If you live in a hot climate, please keep them in air-conditioned rooms to keep them comfortable. Do not leave them outside on a hot day. Walk them in the cool of the morning or in the evening. For the same respiratory reason, do not over-exercise them either. A daily stroll is sufficient for them. And because of their short legs, it’s best not to let them jump from your bed or sofa to the floor. Picture all that weight on the joints. Get a step ladder so they can get down easily without putting stress on their legs. You can read more about Bulldogs here.

Video of Bulldog puppies cleaning each other after lunch. Learn about different reasons why dogs lick. Sometimes it's more than affection.

The post [VIDEO] Bulldog Puppies Clean Each Other After Lunch appeared first on Doggie Outpost.

The Bulldog puppies in this video are cleaning each other after lunch. One of them is licking the inside of a sibling, probably to get the last bit of the yummy lunch. Another puppy is licking a sibling’s ear. What a clean family! So why do dogs lick? Either lick each other or lick us? Josh Weiss-Roessler writes about this topic in Cesar’s Way.

Dogs like to lick what taste good. Not only food. The salt on our face tastes good to them. (Maybe it’s because there’s no sodium in their food!) Of course it’s also their way of showing affection to us too. Another reason they lick (themselves) is to clean. Like giving themselves a bath. Cats are not the only ones who like to stay clean. Dogs do too. Another reason is that dogs’ saliva has enzymes that kill some bacteria. If they get scratches and small wounds from their daily activities, they can clean their wounds and get rid of dirt. But if you see excessive licking, they can reopen their wounds.

Why dogs like to lick

If you see your dog repetitively licking the same area, or the same object while he is experiencing some fear or nervousness, there is a possibility that this kind of licking is to relieve stress. If this behavior is excessive, it can reinforce the anxiety and possibly makes things worse.

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

Still another reason our dog licks us intensely may be to let us know they need something. Check to see if the water bowl is empty or if the pet door is locked.

And here’s one more reason—a really good reason—why our dogs lick us. Affection. Licking for this reason releases endorphins in our dogs that feel good to them. It comforts them and calms them.

If this gets to be uncomfortable for you and you wish them to do this less, Josh suggests that you ignore the licking, get up and go to another room. In time, they’ll get the message that when they lick you, you go elsewhere. They don’t want this, so they’ll adjust their behavior to get what they want—to have you near them. You can read more about this topic here.

This blog has been updated. It was originally published on October 15, 2021.

There is no way this growl would scare away anyone! This is Candy, an English Bulldog puppy. Does she have spunk! Leaping out of her bed, hiding her nose in the edge of her bed. That “Grrrrr” sound anything BUT threatening. This little one must add lots of entertainment for the family.

How to care for Bulldogs

If she seems a big dominant, it may be just a puppy thing, writes Isabela Hatzmann of Bully Make. She suggests some ideas that would help with this. A couple of them are exercising your puppy to get rid of that excess energy. And another idea is to have interesting toys ready to keep their mind and body busy. Even though they do not need a lot of exercise like some other breeds, adding physical and mental stimulation enriches our Bulldog’s life.

What to do for your Bulldog if you live in a hot climate

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

Bulldogs do not do well in heat. So if you live in a hot climate, keep your dog indoor during the hot part of the day. Bulldogs overheat easily, and their panting cannot cool them off as easily as other dogs.

Isabela suggests some ways of taking care of your Bulldogs on hot days. Keep an eye on them. If you have a swimming pool, they might try to get in the water to cool off. But they are not swimmers. If your house has air-conditioning, that’ll be great. If not, keep your Bulldog in the coolest part of the house. If you have tiled floors, that would help.

What to do if your Bulldog overheats

If you see that your dog is overheat, remove him from the hot area right away. Then put him in some cool water, and pour some cool water over his head. Make sure the cold water soaks his paws, and give him plenty of cold water to drink. You can read more about this topic here. Enjoy listening to this feisty English Bulldog puppy.

This blog has been updated from its original published date, August 4, 2020.

It’s hard to look at a Pug and not smile. There’s just something about those soulful eyes that invite you to stop and stay a while. And they seem to be naturally friendly and outgoing.

Pugs are known as the clown in dogs’ world because of their sense of humor and also because they enjoy showing off, according to Dog Time. Pugs are bred to be companion dogs, which means they thrive on YOUR companionship. They love your affection, and would become unhappy if their devotion to you is not returned.

What are Pugs like?

Because they are small and quiet, Pugs can live in apartments. When they are indoors, they are relatively inactive. And they are low maintenance.

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

They do need their exercise even though they are low maintenance. If they don’t get their walks in, you’ll likely see some goofiness in this clown.

Are Pugs good with children?

Pugs love children. Even though they are small and considered a Toy breed, they are not delicate like some other Toy breeds, so kids can play with them and not need to worry the way they would another Toy breed that’s more fragile. However, this is not a breed that enjoys playing soccer with the kids. They are not retrievers.

Pugs’ sensitivity to heat

Their respiratory system is not as efficiently built for heavy duty sports. So be mindful of this if you are new to playing with a Pug. If you live in a hot and humid area, don’t keep your Pug outside too long. They are sensitive to heat and humidity. Make sure they are comfortable in a cool house, perhaps with air-condition. And if you live in a very hot climate, take them on their walks either earlier in the morning or after the sun has gone down. This way, your Pug would enjoy the outdoor time much more.

If you have other pets in the house already, know that Pugs can also get along with other dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals, as long as they are socialized properly.

You can read more about this breed here. Enjoy watching the Pugs in this video! And if you like Pug videos, here is another one for you to enjoy–Grover the Pug enjoying his lettuce!

The dogs in this video are happily socializing with each other at the dog park. You might have seen videos of dogs getting very excited once they find out their owners are pulling the car into the dog park parking lot. It’s a place where they can run leash free. For dogs who love to run but have only a small yard or no yard at home, this is a wonderful outlet for them!

What are the benefits of dog parks?

In some dog parks, there are separate sections for small dogs, medium size dogs, and large dogs to keep the little ones safe, and for the large dogs to run freely without having to worry about stepping on the little one. An article in Pets WebMd shares the benefits and the downside of taking your dogs to the dog park. In this post, I’ll share only the benefits. Feel free to read the complete article for more information.

According to Pets WebMd, some benefits of taking our dogs to the dog park is that they get the mental and physical exercises they need. If dogs weren’t living with humans, they’d be living a very active life.

Dogs need physical and mental exercises

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

Some dog breeds have worked alongside humans for many generations. Today, most dogs living with humans lead a rather sedentary life, leading to health and sometimes behavioral issues because they get bored. Dog parks also provide the avenue for them to play til they exhaust themselves.

Dog parks allow dogs to use their social skills

Another advantage of going to the dog park is that our dogs are practicing their social skills with many other dogs. Dogs are very social people. Some enjoy being with other dogs a great deal. And if they are the only dog at home, this is a wonderful opportunity for them. Dog parks benefit pet parents too because they get to exercise their dogs without doing a thing. This is also a good place to practice off-leash training, or enjoy their friends having a grand time. You can read more about this topic here. Enjoy watching these happy dogs having a ball at the dog park.

Poor exhausted Dad! Listen to the French Bulldog in this video snoring, and napping with his kids. Look how he wraps one of his babies in his arms even while he is sleeping. What a loving daddy. I am just so glad someone got this on tape. He is probably exhausted from caring for the puppies. Plus that’s one of the adorable characteristics of dogs with short nose.

Snoring comes more easily for them, especially if they sleep on their back. If they keep the household awake, there are some ways to help reduce the intensity of the snoring. But not eliminate, unfortunately. This breed have short breathing passage. Snoring just comes with the territory. Tammy Dray writes on Pets The Nest that there are some ways of helping with the snoring.

How to care for Bulldogs

Dog Bowl designed to slow down fast eaters

Bulldogs do not do well with heat, so make sure the room is comfortable temperature wise. If it’s summer, keeping him in an air-conditioned room would help with the snoring. Another factor is weight. If a Bulldog does not get enough exercise, it is easy for them to be over-weight, which contributes to breathing issues.

Putting your dog on some kind of diet, or making sure he’s got enough exercise would help with the snoring. Humidity in the room is also a factor. Try opening a window when he sleeps and see if that helps. If it doesn’t help enough, experiment with using a humidifier to help with the breathing. And if your Bulldog’s snoring has changed recently in the frequency or in intensity, do take him to a vet to make sure it’s not a condition that affects the airway, which makes breathing less easy for him. You can read more about this topic here.

Enjoy this sweet scene of Mom napping with the kids and snoring REALLY loud.

One thing to remember–they don’t know their size, so you might teach the little ones to watch for their big gentle friend. One wag of that tail, and things can be off the coffee table, or even knock over a toddler. Regular puppy food is not what you feed a large breed dog. They have different dietary requirements. And because it takes longer for all the bones to grow in for this giant, puppies under 18 months are best not allowed to jump around or jog, in order to protect their joints and still growing bodies.

A Great Dane mostly get along with other pets. Some may be aggressive with livestock occasionally. It varies from individual to individual. Some would not want another pet in the house, while others would sleep with the cat and other dogs. Great Danes love their family, and want to be where they are. However old they get, they still believe they are lap dogs. So be prepared for this treat! As good natured as they are with everyone, it is a good idea to socialize them as puppies so they are exposed to different people and situations. You can read more about Great Danes here. Enjoy watching this amusing scene of a little pup trying to wake up a gentle giant.
