Listen to an argumentative French Bulldog puppy who is feisty at bedtime. That voice is so fun to listen to. He certainly lets his mom knows what he thinks about having to go to bed. A spirited little one. This breed likes to talk, according to Abri French Bulldogs.

French Bulldogs truly love people. They love our neighbor, they love the mailman. (That certainly would make the mail route so much more pleasant for the mail carrier.) It’s no wonder that some owners of French Bulldogs question how loyal their dog is to them. But they really do adore their owners the most. And it’s not just people that French Bulldogs like. They also get along with dogs and other species, as long as you introduced them properly.

What French Bulldogs need

Because they like being around people so much, they don’t like to be left alone too long. If at all possible, please integrate them into your schedule so they can interact with someone. If your office allows dogs, a French Bulldog would be very happy to socialize with your co-workers. So would your co-workers. However, if you bring your dog to the office meeting, it’s quite possible that it would be the least productive meeting ever because the attention is on this people lover.

Dog Harness Soft Padded by Rabbitgoo

French Bulldogs love walks. But not very long ones because they have moderate energy. The best scenario for them is if they can stop along the walk and socialize with other people and dogs. This will make their day. If you are a jogger or runner, just know that they are not your jogging or running buddies. Because of their short nose, they are vulnerable to heat stress. It’s not a good idea to take them on the airplane.

They also cannot swim because of their body is top heavy. If you have a swimming pool, consider another breed. And if you already have a Frenchie, then take all precautions that they are not near the pool by themselves. French Bulldogs are sensitive. Be sure to use only positive training with them. Enjoy listening to this spirited French Bulldog argue with Mom about bedtime.

The dogs in this video help patients recover from addictions. Irish, Toby, and Kerry are an integral part of some patients’ recovery at the Betty Ford Center. Irish is the Golden Retriever. Toby and Kerry are the Cavalier King Charles spaniels, who are part of the therapy sessions. They sit on the laps of patients while they are sharing in group. They are intuitive to the emotional needs of the patients.

Irish works a full work week, then go home with one of the counselors for the weekend and get the weekend off. While at work, Irish would play with the patients, who may play ball with him, or let him carry a towel to them. He just loves hanging out at the gym. One of the patients were suffering from the shakes. Irish just lies nearby. The patient reaches out to pet him, and calms right down from that interaction.

How therapy dogs help patients

Soft Padded Dog Harness

According to the Butler Center for Research, having a dog especially at an initial therapy session helps the patient to feel less anxious about the environment and about the verbal communication. It’s easier to start a conversation when we are talking about our pets. It brings a smile to our face, and from there, it’s easier to build rapport for the therapy.

Touching a therapy dog feels reassuring to patients

Sometimes during a therapy session, the patient may benefit from a reassuring touch. However, there are professional guidelines around touching. So a therapy dog is great in this situation. The touch is initiated by the patient. Dogs offer no judgment, and are unconditional love. This goes a long way in feeling good about oneself again. There are higher success rate in staying on the treatment program during the stay at the center as well as after the patient leaves.

This video allows us to appreciate even more the service and love that our dogs offer us. If you enjoy this video, here is one on connecting senior dogs with seniors.

The Shih Tzu in this video is snoring so loudly that she wakes up her Pomeranian sister. The Shih Tzu’s name is Sophie. She is 13 years old. Poor Pomeranian must be sleep deprived from sharing a doggie bed with Sophie. She must really likes being close to Sophie, otherwise she would have just gotten up and sleep in another room when Sophie starts snoring.

So what causes a dog to snore? Geoff Williams gathered information from vets and shared some insights on the topic. Certain breeds are prone to snore. Those are the breeds with a short snout, which means their breathing passage is shorter. For example, Shih Tzu, English Bulldogs, Pugs, just to mention a few. That doesn’t mean the other breeds do not snore. And there are other factors which also contribute to snoring.

What causes snoring in dogs?

Geoff writes that being overweight can contribute to snoring. For example, a Pomeranian that’s supposed to weigh 9 pounds is 17 pounds instead. Excess weight also can mean excess fat in the throat, which contributes to blocking the air passage way and causes snoring.

Dog Harness Soft Padded by Rabbitgoo

Another reason for dogs snoring is their sleep position. Dogs who like to sleep on their back are more likely to snore because their tongues would be in such a position that partially blocks their breathing passage. Adjusting their sleep positions can help. But that means you have to get out of bed to adjust their sleeping positions.

Allergy to dust and second-hand-smoke can also lead to snoring in dogs. If your dogs has never snored, and all of a sudden starts snoring, you might have him checked out. If your dog has always snored, but is otherwise a happy and active dog, it’s probably nothing to be concerned. You can read more about this topic here.

Enjoy listening to this snoring Shih Tzu and watching the reaction of her Pomeranian sister.

And if you like listening to dogs snore, here is another video of a French Bulldog snoring loudly.

It must be quite amusing to pedestrians as Jenny pushes her toy Pug in a stroller around Portland. Jenny LOVES to push her stroller. Turn up the volume for the beautiful song that accompanies this video.

Jenny has her own website called Jenny The Pug. There are some cute pictures there. What I appreciate about this video (besides smiling at a pug who likes to push her Nintendog Pug puppies) is that it is also a tour around Portland, Oregon. You get a glimpse of some of the landmarks–St. Johns Bridge, Waterfront Park, Union Station, Rose Gardens, the Grotto…

It must bring a smile on people’s face when they see Jenny walking her toy Pug. For whatever reason Jenny prefers to walk on her hind legs, exercise is very important for a Pug to stay healthy. On the other side of the coin, Pug cannot get overheat, for that can tax their system. It is a good thing that Jenny has a parasol to keep her in the shade on her walk.

Exercise for Pugs

Dog Harness Soft Padded by Rabbitgoo

One of the benefits of walking is that it helps to tone their muscles, especially those around their knees and hips, so they stay strong and supportive. Pugs can be prone to have health concerns in these two areas, according to Pet Pug Dog.

Walking also helps with metabolism and burn up calories, which is important for Pugs, for this breed has a tendency to gain weight.

How to care for your Pug if you live in a hot climate

If you live in hot climate, take special care not to take them outdoor when the temperature is very high. Pugs’ respiratory system does not do well in this condition. Walk them either early in the day or late in the evening when it’s cooler. Some people buy doggie shoes so the hot pavements would not harm the paws of their dogs. You can read more about this topic here. Enjoy a leisurely stroll with Jenny and the music by the late Dax Johnson.

If you enjoy this video, here is one about a senior Pug and 2 new puppies.

The 3-weeks-old Boston Terriers in this video are starting to interact with each other. Even at this young age, the Boston’s big eyes are already prominent. It’s a rare treat to find a video with such young Boston Terriers. By the way, this breed was named after the city of Boston because they were developed there.

What are Boston Terriers like?

The Boston is one well-mannered dog. When they are well socialized, they get along with EVERYBODY. Grown-ups, children, other pets. Everybody is their friend. They are versatile in the sense that they will adapt to your lifestyle. Actually Boston’s make great therapy dogs. They are intelligent, alert, and gentle, according to Dog Breed Info. They are sensitive to our tone of voice.

Will Boston Terriers do all right in an apartment?

Dog Harness Soft Padded by Rabbitgoo

Boston’s need their physical and mental exercise, otherwise they can get a bit high strung or rambunctious. They learn very quickly, so they are easy to train. They are affectionate, and love being with their family. Really good with children and the elderly. And friendly with strangers. Some bark when it’s necessary, but some don’t even bark at the door. They usually get along with other pets who are not dogs. Boston Terriers can do all right in apartments or in the country. A long walk a day and play sessions would satisfy their exercise needs. They are fairly inactive indoor.

How much grooming do Boston Terriers need?

Grooming Boston Terriers is an easy job. Just wipe their face with a damp cloth and carefully clean their eyes daily. Even though the Boston can entertain himself with his favorite toys, what this dog really needs is your companionship. He is definitely a snuggler and a cuddler.

What kind of family is best suited for a Boston Terrier?

He is best suited for a family who wants his company. And even though they love kids, and kids love them, it is important to teach children how to approach and respect dogs. Even though some dogs are patient, no dog likes to be pulled and yanked. You can read more about Boston Terriers here. Enjoy watching these 3-weeks-old puppies.

This is a video of Hulk the Pitbull babysitting for human babies and his own puppies. There is a reason this breed has been known as the nanny dog for such a long time. They really take their babysitting job—their nurturing and protecting job very seriously. Look at the gentleness of giant Hulk. And he’s got to have a sense of humor to let his human family paint him in colors of the Hulk and wearing that purpose shorts.

Hulk is part of a family that supplies protection dogs to law enforcement and high profile individuals. An article by Villalobos Rescue Center did an excellent job in going into details about the Pitbull. In fact, they explain that the term “Pitbull” actually does not refer to a breed. Pitbull is a generic term referring to dogs with similar characteristics that can include American Pitbull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Pit mixes.

Characteristics of a PitBull

A Pitbull is best matched with an owner that is active, caring, and responsible. This is a dog best matched for someone with experience around dogs (not for a first-time dog owner) and someone who has knowledge of the personality of a Pitbull. They are very eager to please. They respond to training very well.

As soon as they are all up to date with shots, start taking them to obedience classes. This is a strong and powerful dog. While they are energetic, they are also agile.

Characteristic of the Pitbull is determination. Once they decide to do something, they do it with heart and soul. If it’s getting out of a poorly fenced yard, they will find a way. If it’s getting onto your lap to shower kisses on you, they will.

They LOVE people. They crave human attention. They are affectionate and cuddly. Most Pitbulls believe they are lap dogs. When it comes to temperament, they rank among the top 5 most stable breeds in the country, according to a 2001 American Temperament Test. You can read more about the Pitbulls here.
