This fun-loving dog comes from ancestors with quite a different trait, according to Pet Health Network.  Bulldogs used to work with bulls.  Their temperament then was quite different because of what they did.  But over the years, that aggressiveness was bred out of them, and today this gentle dog is the 6th most popular breed in the U.S.  They may look a bit formidable, but they are among the friendliest of dogs.  They are easy going, very laid back, and love being with people.

What are some characteristics of Bulldogs?

Bulldogs are good with children, and they also get along with cats.  This is a breed that looks as good when they are seniors as when they are puppies.  A happy activity for them is to go for a ride with you in the car.  They enjoy catching the breeze with their head out the window, with their tongue hanging out.

And another favorite activity of theirs is lying on your sofa, basking in the sun. And when they’ve snoozed enough, they’ll just follow you around the house.

If you live in a warm climate, be sure to have air-condition available to your Bulldog.  Heat is not a friend.  If they are left out in the hot sun, they can get heatstroke and die within 30 minutes.  They need about a 15 minute walk a day.  So take them out in the morning or in the cool evening to keep them cool and comfortable.
