The Great Dane in this video is just not ready for morning. She wants to linger in her comfortable bed. What a great idea to have a regular sized people bed for Jess. She takes up the whole bed. There are actually doggie beds for Great Dane’s size. As much as they like being with us, where are you going to sleep if you share your bed with a Great Dane?

A male can weigh between 120 to 200 pounds. A female can weigh between 100 to 130 pounds. They are rightly called “gentle giants” because they love everyone and need to be around us. They are affectionate. And they are so patient and playful with children. One thing to watch out for is that being such a large dog, if they aren’t watching, their tail could accidentally knock over a toddler. So even though they are wonderful with children, this is something to consider if you have a very young child who are not yet walking.

How to train a Great Dane

When your Great Dane puppy first gets home, start training him not to jump up on people or lean against them. Their puppy size may still be manageable, but not the full-grown Marmaduke. According to Vetstreet, most Great Danes are not barkers. However, it’s a good idea to make sure they don’t even come near to developing that habit. The reason is their bark is the deepest, loudest of any dog, and can carry a long distance. Just think of the movie “101 Dalmatians” and who was the dog to lead the Twilight Bark to spread the news of the missing puppies.

Surprisingly, Great Danes can live in an apartment because he is quiet and rather inactive (even though he does need his 10 to 20 minute walk a day.) However, if you live in a place with stairs, just project into the future if he gets injured and you have to carry him down the stairs to the vet. You can read more about this wonderful breed here.
