You might have watched videos of The Talking Dog. In this video, the Talking Dog is super excited about getting a kitten. The narrator builds up the excitement before he gets to the part about the kitten. The Talking dog just can’t stand the suspense anymore, even threatens to “chew off the arm of the sofa” if he doesn’t stop teasing him.

The voice-over is absolutely wonderful, matching the facial and body expression, and the LIP movement of the dog. A fabulous artist! Talking Dog’s name is Clark G. the dog. He was adopted by Jennifer and Marc. They adopted him from the Colorado Puppy Rescue after losing one of their dogs, writes Paul Bradley Smith. Marc and Jennifer searched online for shelter dogs.

How Talking Dog met his family

The dog Clark’s parents had originally wanted to take home was adopted by someone else, that’s how they ended up going to the Puppy Rescue where Clark G. was.

Pet Grooming Glove to remove hair gently

At that time, Clark G.’s name was Puppy #55. One other family was interested in him. Clark’s parents had to wait for that family’s decision. After the Rescue center told the other family what is involved in caring for Clark G., they decided that this would not be the best match for their family because Clark did have some special needs.

And that is how Clark came to join Marc and Jennifer’s family. And that’s how he changed his name from Puppy #55 to Clark G.

The first night he was home, Jennifer noticed that he was scratching and crying all night. She experimented with different food for Clark, did a bunch of research and found the solution that stops Clark’s allergy. Now Clark G.’s diet is lamb and rice. Clark also learns that there is a hierarchical order at home. Layla was with the family longer, so she gets to climb in bed first with their parents. Enjoy listening to this conversation.

During a study break, these Corgi puppies are snuggling with students. This is the best kind of study break ever. No sugar, no caffeine. Just a puppy high. We already know that playing with dogs can relieve stress, and leave a smile on our face. What better way to prepare for an exam than to spend some time with soft, cuddly puppies?

In fact, at Emory University, therapy dogs are brought in during exam week to help students relieve the stress of preparing for their tests. According to the Emory News Center, the university welcomes trained dogs from an organization called Canine Assistants for the students to pet and play with. These dogs are being trained to be service dogs, and they need to be exposed to a variety of environment in preparation for their job. A university campus certainly provides a variety of experience.

A university uses dog therapy during exam time

Students in groups of three spend 10 minutes petting and playing with the dogs, in the process relieving tension and reducing stress. In fact, studies have shown that petting an animal can lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Pet Grooming Glove For Hair Removal

360 students attended this pet therapy event at Emory in 2013. So the dogs are back by popular demand! One student said that his doctor advised him to be around animals to lower his anxiety. He did, and he felt much more relaxed after petting the dogs.

Emory had these pet therapy sessions in the library during exam times. Already dogs are helping children to read in school, helping inmates to feel a sense of well-being. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see them in more environments where people appreciate reducing their stress level? Thank you, dogs everywhere, for your kindness to us. You can read more about the Emory University Pet Therapy program here. Enjoy watching these cuddly Corgi puppies help these students relax during their study break.

The Boston Terrier in this video is adored by her cat friend. The cat, Tito, can’t stop licking Lilly, the Boston Terrier. And Lilly is loving this nurturing attention. Wouldn’t it be nice if more cats and dogs live harmoniously with each other like these two?

How to help your dog and cat get along

Christy Heaton writes an informative article in Boston Terrier Network about how to help your new dog connect with your family cat. These tips are general. It all depends on the individual cat and dog. It helps if the cat has lived with dogs before, and vice versa. If you are thinking about adopting a dog, check if the foster family has a cat, and whether the foster dog feels comfortable around cats. If you have the opportunity to have your cat meet the prospective dog before you adopt, that would be excellent.

How to introduce your new dog to your cat

Christy recommends that you reassure your family cat that a new dog is not taking attention away from her. Give her extra attention. Have the new dog on a leash, and let the cat take her time in getting acquainted with the newcomer. Use treats to reward the cat and to reward the dog, so they both associate something positive with the meeting and interaction.

Pet Grooming Glove For Hair Removal

Supervise playtime. The new dog may not know how gentle or rough to play with the cat. Especially with the exposed eyes of the Boston Terrier, one swat from the cat can mean a trip to the vet. So watch out for your new dog.

Will your cat be stressed out by a dog?

And before you make the decision to adopt the new dog, make sure your cat will not be stressed out by the addition. This is her home. She should feel comfortable in her environment. If she is skittish or not social around dogs, maybe you can contribute to dogs in other ways than bringing one home.

Enjoy watching Tito give Lilly a thorough facial.

Remember Murkin, the calm dog who loves cats? He has already helped many kittens that his mom is fostering to feel safe and comfortable around a dog–him. This will probably help with future placement of these kittens when they find families to adopt them. If the family has a dog, these kittens have already had the most loving introduction to a dog that they trust.

This is a video of Murkin meeting new foster kitten, Thomas O’Malley Flufferpants. I am glad that Dcjanelle keeps sharing her videos of loving Murkin helping foster kittens to feel safe. In this video, Murkin’s mom shares that Flufferpants was a feral cat that she rescued and is fostering until she is ready to be adopted.

Murkin the rescue dog and his cat friends

Flufferpants was afraid of dogs at the beginning, so Murkin’s mom let Flufferpants get used to seeing Murkin from a distance. She would give Flufferpants treats and affection when Murkin is about 20 feet away. This helps Flufferpants get used to the idea of being around a dog without actually interacting with one directly. The treats certainly don’t hurt.

Pet Grooming Glove For Hair Removal

After about a month of this indirect getting to know each other, Murkin’s mom let them meet directly for the first time, which is captured in this video. You can see how wonderfully this meeting went. Murkin is already protective of Flufferpants and even tries to push his mom’s hand away as she reaches for the cat.

Murkin is also a rescue from a shelter

Murkin’s mom adopted him from a local shelter when he was just 6-months-old. As far as the shelter can tell, Murkin is a mix of Great Pyrenees/Labrador/Golden Retriever/Australian Shepherd.

Murkin helps prepare foster kittens for their forever homes

Murkin loves to hang out with other animals, and is especially fond of cats and kitens. He makes a great team with his mom preparing foster kittens for their new forever homes. Enjoy this loving bond the first time Murkin has direct contact with Thomas O’Malley Flufferpants.

If you enjoy watching Murkin’s videos with his cat friends, here is another one of him taking care of a rescue kitten.

The Chow Chow puppy in this video is camera shy. He seems to be running away from the camera, or hiding from it. Chow Chow’s need to be socialized as early as possible. They are naturally protective. It helps if you invite guests inside your home often, so the puppy become familiar with people entering his home and be all right about it.

What kind of family is best suited for a Chow Chow?

This dog is better matched with older children who know how to show respect to a dog rather than younger children. Chow Chow’s are not patient when it comes to being teased or treated with disrespect, according to some. They will retaliate if mistreated. But when they are treated with love and respect, they will treat you the same way. That sounds like wise guidance for any dog.

What are Chow Chow’s like?

Chow Chow’s can be dominant, and can be aggressive with dogs of the same gender. It’s best for them to be the only dog in the family. Or if you really want a second dog, to raise the other one alongside the Chow Chow, and make the other one the opposite gender, and about the same size as the Chow Chow.

Pet Grooming Glove For Hair Removal

Do Chow Chow’s get along with other pets?

If you have a small dog or a cat in the house already, Chow may not be the best choice because their hunting instinct can take over. Because Chow Chow are very protective of their family and property, it’s best to belong to an experienced dog owner who has time and energy to train and socialize the Chow Chow. They can be aggressive. In fact, before you adopt one, check your insurance policy first to verify if they cover Chow Chow’s.

Chow Chow’s exercise needs

As far as exercise goes, they only need moderate exercise. Several walks a day, occasionally taking them for a run would be fine. They are more active in winters. Their coat can irritate them in the summer time. If you have a yard, make sure it’s fenced. And always walk a Chow on a leash because they can be aggressive to other animals and strangers.

The puppy in this video is loving a gentle massage. So relaxed! When we think of giving our puppies a massage, often we think of their back muscles, their arms and legs, according to Pawsitive Canine Massage. If you think of your last massage for yourself and how good that face massage feels, you’ll understand why your dog would appreciate the same. Our sinus cavity is here, ears, eyes, blood vessels, gums, and so many smaller parts that contribute just as much to our sense of well-being. If you decide to give your dog a nice face massage, read the article in its entirety first before you begin.

How to give your dog a massage

The author, a dog massage therapist, starts the massage with the neck, and works her way down the back, and ends with the head. She writes that most dogs will feel resistant if we start massaging their face to begin with. Give them time to feel relaxed with the rest of the body. Give them time to trust our touch (our massage pressure) before getting to the place where they “face the world.”

Pet Grooming Glove

When you massage your dog’s head, use light pressure. Light touch goes a long way. Remember to use your finger tips. No fingernails. This light massage on the head will stimulate circulation, the brain, and promotes relaxation.

You can follow this with a light tapping called tapotement. You can read about that technique in the article first before beginning. Once their head is completely relaxed, you can move to the ears. Especially dogs with large ears benefit from ear massage because they are more prone to ear infections.

Massaging across the bridge of the nose and between the eyes opens up the sinus cavity. This is especially helpful for dogs with short nose, such as Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Shih Tzu, and Pekingnese. You can read the instructions on how to give your dog a head massage here.

This is a video of a most delightful Shorkie puppy playing with her mom. Shorkie is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Shih Tzu. Crossbreeding often eliminates some of the “problem” aspects of purebred.

It is less predictable which side of the family a Shorkie takes after in both physical appearance and personality. Elle Di Jensen in Pets The Nest is glad to write that dogs of mixed heritage are no longer considered “mutts” but as designer breeds. When a Yorkie is grown, it does not exceed 7 pounds, whereas a Shih Tzu can weigh between 9 to 16 pounds. Their offspring the Shorkie can weigh anywhere between 7 and 16 pounds, depending on which side of the family tree they take after.

Characteristics of a Shorkie (Shih Tzu and Yorkie)

A Shorkie’s silky coat can be mid to long in length. If they take after the Shih Tzu parent, the Shorkie would have a double coat. As far as personality goes, both parents make good companions, and are playful and brave. The Yorkie is more determined, like to investigate things, and have lots of energy. he Shih Tzu is alert and lively.

Whichever side of the family your Shorkie takes after, they are going to be tiny as puppies. She is going to need just as much attention as a human baby.

Pet Grooming Glove For Hair Removal

Don’t leave her alone while she is getting used to her new home. Interact a lot and help her get used to your schedule.

Some individuals will be easier to potty train than others. At the first indication that your Shorkie needs to use the bathroom, train her to either use a pee pad or take her outside. Take her to the same area every hour and after every meal. This will help her learn the routine.

She likes to play but will get tired easily, so train her to take frequent naps. Since the Shorkie does not have much body fat, make sure there is food and water available for her at all times. You can learn more about the Shorkie here.
