The tiny Pug puppy in this video is one joyful pup. He is so tiny that his Mom can pick him up with one hand. He is almost as large as her feet. Not quite, but almost there. See how lively this little Pug is? That’s a characteristic of Pugs.

They are loving and affectionate. They are very intelligent. Include variations when you train him so he does not get bored. Because he is sensitive to the tone of your voice, be sure to sound calm and confident. Pugs get along with dogs and other pets. They are good with children and visitors. They may alarm you when someone is at the door, but once they are inside, your Pug will welcome your visitor.

How to care for Pugs

Pugs are okay with apartment living, and is fine without a yard. The adults spend much of the day snoring anyway. But do take your Pug for a daily walk. They don’t like hot or cold weather. They need to be in comfortable temperature. Even though they enjoy rather energetic game, watch their breathing. If they start to wheeze, stop the game and let them calm down. Their short nose has make them more vulnerable to overheating.

Dog jacket reversible waterproof windproof

The respiratory system of the Pug is more delicate, according to Michele Welton on Your Pure Bred Puppy. Avoid smoking near him. Use cleaning products that are chemical free. Keep him away from grass that’s just been cut. Keep him away from pollen that can cause allergies. When the weather is hot and humid, limit outdoor activities because he can get heatstroke. This is true for short-faced dogs because they can’t pant enough to lower their body heat. It’s good to keep them in air-conditioned homes in the summer. Use a harness that wraps around his chest, so his throat won’t feel pressured, which makes it harder on his breathing. If they ever need surgery, insist that your vet uses a blood pressure and heart monitor. Not all vets are equally knowledgeable when anesthetizing dogs with short face. You can read the entire article here.

The Pug in this video is Howie, a puppy who is meeting big friends at the dog park. A dog park is a wonderful place for dogs to get their social time. Like us, they need to see friends who speak their own language. Some dog parks have several sections to accommodate different sized dogs, so the pet parents won’t have to worry about their tiny dog getting squashed by a large dog.

When to start bringing puppies to the dog park

This is one place to bring puppies after they’ve had all their shots. If the puppy hasn’t completed the vaccinations, you can still socialize him at home, with friends coming by, or taking them to friends’ homes. They can still get used to meeting new people, smelling new scents, seeing new environment. This socialization process helps puppies grow into adults who feel comfortable when they encounter new people and new situations.

Pets Web MD shares that many behavior problems in dogs come from not having enough activities. Dogs in the wild lead a busy life. Dogs as pets often become couch potatoes, eating from bowls instead of looking for food.

Their much needed physical and mental abilities are not put to full use when they just wait for us to come home to play with them. Dog parks can be a good place for your active friend to run freely and socialize with his own species, talking their own language, reading other dogs’ body language. They get to sniff new smells, explore a whole new interesting world that’s not his home, wrestle with other dogs, meet new dogs, practice his dog’s social skills. And after all that running and chasing and playing, he’d be so exhausted physically and mentally that he will sleep for hours. And you get to “exercise” your dog without lifting your finger, and get to visit with other dog lovers and swap stories about your baby. You can read more about the benefits of dog parks here.

This Pug speaks with words AND paws! He is either having a conversation with the camera or the videographer. It’s understandable that if this little one has never seen a camera before, and his owner’s face cannot be seen behind that camera, it can be a bit disconcerting. As the puppy reaches out and gets no response, he gets increasingly annoyed, and starts letting the camera know what he thinks of it.

How to care for a Pug’s breathing

Pugs do make interesting noises. Someone asks a question on Pet Pug Dog about what kind of noise is normal for a Pug and what kind of noise should we be concerned about. The noises they make is part of what makes a Pug endearing to us. Even if we just heard that same noise this morning, it still amuses us. And coming out of that comical face makes it better.

Dental Chews for Dogs

Because of the way a Pug’s head and snout is shaped, it is normal for them to catch their breath from time to time. When it gets too hot, a Pug will start panting because he gets overheat very quickly. Or, if it’s hot and humid, and they ran around or walk too long, this can happen too. Take them out of the heat immediately and have them stay in a cool place. Give them water.

If you live in a hot area, exercise your Pug in the cooler morning or evening, not in the heat of the day. If a Pug burps, it may be because of the food he is eating or maybe he is eating too fast. Try removing one of the vegetables and see if that takes care of things. Another idea is to buy a slow-eat bowl or put a portion pacer to the bowl they have. This will slow down their eating, and they will gulp down less air. If they burp a lot, tell your vet how often it is happening. It could point to something that requires attention. You can read the entire article here. If you enjoy this Pug video, you might also enjoy this one.
