I just finished reading this helpful article about how to help our dogs live longer, written by Ashley Bennett on Cesar’s Way.
Ashley writes that by doing these things, we not only extend our dog’s life, but we can add to their quality of life as well.
Included in this list are:
- dental health–brush their teeth at least a couple of times a week
- Give your dog time to relax (This one I hadn’t thought of. But it makes sense. Dogs need down time too. WE are THEIR job. :-))
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
Give your dog time to relax: Everyone needs time to relax, including your dog. Stress can have a negative effect on dogs if they are in a state of constant anxiety. There should be some type of balance where your dog can get some exercise, but also have time to be independent from the family and get some rest.
It takes a lot of energy to run around with the family and keep up with the excitement, so they need some time to sleep on their own. Allow your dog to rest for at least an hour every day and do not force them to do activities if they are not interested.
