Months before the baby arrives, you can start preparing your dog with schedule change, so that when the time comes when you do have to devote that time to your new baby, the schedule change would not feel sudden to your dog. They too get used to a schedule.
And if you prefer to nurse the baby with your dog outside the bedroom, you can gradually train your dog to do so while you are sitting in your nursery, so he associates the idea that when you sit in a certain chair in the nursery, he stays outside the door.
And if you have at least a day before bringing the baby home, you might leave an item with the baby scent with your dog, so he starts getting familiar with the scent of your baby. A family member at home might reinforce the association positively by talking softly to your dog, praising him when he smells the clothing, and perhaps even offer a treat if you feel it helps to strengthen the positive feeling.
