The Shih Tzu in this video is practicing how to say the word “Mama.” Her name is Abby. I don’t know how interested she actually is in learning to speak human. But she likes her Mom, so she is making an effort to please her friend.
Abby must have been practicing this for a while. At this filming, she was only 5-months-old. I think there is no “m” sound in the dog language, yet some of them manage to produce this consonant. My assumption is that just like humans, there are some particularly drawn to language. So the dogs who imitate human speech are probably fascinated by their vocal abilities as well.
