What are Havanese like?

If you are thinking about getting a Havanese, they do require brushing everyday to maintain that beautiful coat.  Havanese don’t shed much, but that doesn’t mean they are hypoallergenic.  If you are allergic to most dogs, spend time with some Havanese first, and see if your allergy acts up before you bring one home.    This is a breed who loves to play with children.  Just make sure that the children don’t play too rough with them.  As with all dogs, teach children how to respect and approach them.

Havanese is a great companion dog.  Even though they are small, they are not yappy.  And they have a deeper voice, like a big dog.  They make good travel companions too.  If you are seeing the country in an RV, this would be a good dog to bring with you.  This wonderful companion can read your emotions and will adjust to your mood.  She is happy to follow you around and adjust to your lifestyle, your schedule.  She loves to please you, and appreciates the attention she gets when she does funny things.

This is a clown at heart.  Because her temperament is so cheerful and loving, the Havanese makes a good therapy dog.  They are happy to settle in your lap.  But that doesn’t mean they aren’t energetic.  They can play for hours, if you have the energy to keep up with her.
