It’s hard not to say “Awwwww” looking at that beautiful over-sized head and tiny little paws, and how they snuggle with a sibling to keep warm. Chihuahuas, specifically the short-haired ones, do not like cold and wet. The ones with long hair do better. That’s one reason why you might see more Chihuahuas wearing jackets and sweaters than other dog breeds. Because they NEED to keep warm. Characteristics of a Chihuahua
First, this is a most loyal dog with a ton of love to give you, and will do anything for you. They are also very intelligent, so provide obedience training.
If your family has young children, this is probably not the right breed for the time being. They are so small that if a little one accidentally drop them or sit on them while they are sleeping under a blanket, that can do serious damage to a little dog like this.
Show children and their friends how to respect your dog
If your family has older children and know how to respect and approach dogs, that would be all right. Just be sure that when their friends come over, that they also know how to respect and approach your dog. Even though the Chihuahua is small, she does need her exercise. Running around the living room doesn’t count. Take them on walks regularly. Have play sessions with them.
And train them so they are quiet and well behaved dogs. They need to be socialized. It is possible for a Chihuahua to take a while to housebreak.
