What a beautiful, blossoming friendship between this dog and this kitten! The more dog videos I watch, the more I notice that friendships between dogs and cats are very common. In this video, the dog is nurturing and patient with the kitten. And from the start, the kitten trusts her dog friend. In fact, in another video, a mama cat was fostering some kittens, and looked after them as her own kids. And in a different video, a rescue dog named Murkin helps to foster kittens with his owner. From the way they relax around him, you can tell the trust that exists.
How to introduce puppies and kittens to each other
Some articles suggest that if we want to introduce puppies and kittens to each other who are going to live in the same home, that it would be a good idea to let the kittens and puppies have their separate space at first, until they are comfortable being aware of the other. For example, have a gate between their separate space, so they can see each other and become familiar with the scent of each other, but not yet having direct touches.
Supervise their play time at the beginning
Then when the sight and scent of each other feels familiar and comfortable to both, you can let them play together for a few minutes, always supervising the interactions to make sure that everyone is playing safely.
Extend their play time gradually
Keep extending that time gradually until they are interacting with each other with consistent comfort and safety that it’s okay for them to be alone without supervision. This is a general guideline, you know the personality of your puppy and kitten.
For example, the two in this video have just met. It’s apparent that they take an instant liking to each other. Notice how the puppy’s friendly hug with just one paw was enough to collapse the kitten’s balance. I hope the women stay in touch so their little ones can continue to play with each other.
This is one of the most magical moments I’ve seen on videos.
