Subaru did it again! Another fun commercial with dogs. In this commercial, the Barkley’s are going through a car wash. A manual car wash. By dogs! I don’t want to give away the ending, but look at the car as the Barkley’s left the car wash. And watch how the rinse cycle is performed.

There is a behind-the-scene video of how this commercial was done (well, part of it anyway). You can look for it on YouTube. But if you don’t want the mystery taken out of this funny commercial, then you might just leave it. If you are thinking, “My dog can do THAT!” you might be right. If you have been training your dog to do tricks, and you think there is a possibility of making your dog a commercial celebrity, read on.

Does your dog have what it takes to be in a commercial?

I read articles written on the subject of how to know if your dog has got what it takes to be in commercials, or maybe in a movie. Remember how successful the movie “Beethoven” was? It was so popular there were sequels. So how do these dogs get on screen? And can your dog have the same opportunity?

PetPeek Fence Window for Pets

Here are some questions to ask yourself.

# 1. Does your dog feel comfortable with strangers, and get along with all people?

There’s going to be plenty of strangers on the commercial set. And there are going to be all kinds of people wearing different outfit, perhaps some moving equipment. Does your dog feel comfortable with this kind of new surroundings and sights? Some dogs do not like people wearing hats and bark at them. That might not do well on a set.

# 2. And how well does your dog respond to command from a distance? There is a possibility that you are not going to be in close proximity to your dog when the film is rolling. Can your dog respond to your command (or whoever is giving the command) and follow through?

These are just 2 questions to start you thinking if your dog might have what it takes to get into the commercial business, or maybe the movie industry. There are other things to consider, but these are 2 to start with. Enjoy watching the Barkley’s go through a car wash. A manual car wash.

This is one of the sweetest commercials EVER! Great job, Budweiser! A puppy wanting to be near a horse friend so much that he keeps breaking out of his yard so he can visit his friend!

In the commercial, it looks as if this puppy and horse are real friends. They may or may not be in reality. The magic of camera, that certain quality that a dog has to convey an emotion…that’s commercial!

So what kind of dogs do well in commercials? Personality and skills count. A dog that’s shy about meeting strangers would be stressed on a commercial set. And a dog that’s uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations would also be stressed. These are just a couple of thoughts to help you decide should you had dreams of getting your dog into the entertainment industry. So let’s say your dog is comfortable around strangers and feel fine in unfamiliar situations.

What does it take for a dog to be in a commercial?

What’s the next criteria? Well-trained. Since there can be lots and lots of distractions on the set, how is your dog in following your command and not get distracted everytime there is movement nearby? Does your dog have the discipline to stay focused on you (or whoever is working with the dog) even when there’s distrations around?

Dog Pool Collapsible by Jasonwell

Keep in mind that during the commercial, your dog would not be on a leash. Is your dog able to follow command off leash, when you are at a distance?

Now for abilities. Yes. Stars are not made on personality alone! If you’ve been training your dog to do tricks, put those down on a resume. Yes, dogs need resumes too!

For example, can your dog limp on command? Crawling, bringing you things? When you take photos of your dog to send to the casting agent, capture moments when your dog is at her cutest.

Also take some short videos (maybe 3 to 5 minutes) when she is performing tricks. This way, if an agent likes the way your dog looks in the photo, and ask to see what your dog can do, you have these videos at your finger tips to send them immediately!

Video of the beloved Talking Dog. Is he the father of the neighbor's puppies? Learn how he was adopted, and how his allergy issue was solved.

The post [VIDEO] Is Talking Dog The Father? appeared first on Doggie Outpost.

Is Talking Dog the father? Remember the video Talking Dog wants bacon? Here’s another video of that same dog–Clark G., having a conversation about the neighbor. The voice-over artist does a fantastic job. It’s about the Talking Dog being suspected of being the father of his neighbor’s new puppies. The Golden Retriever next door who often plays with the Talking Dog just had some puppies, and they look a lot like the Talking Dog.

By the way, if you are new to the Talking Dog videos, it’s a “conversation” between the voice-over artist and the Talking Dog. The lip-sync is so well done, it really seems like the dog is talking! The scripts are humorous. This is one of my audience’s favorite video series.

Talking Dog Clark G.—His Story

The Talking Dog’s name is Clark G. the dog. Jennifer and Marc are his parents. They got him from the Colorado Puppy Rescue after losing one of their dogs, writes Paul Bradley Smith.

GREENIES Pill Pockets Treats for Dogs–Mask Smell And Taste Of Medicine

Marc and Jennifer spent hours searching online for shelters. The dog they had originally wanted to take home was adopted by someone else, that’s how they decided to go to the Puppy Rescue where Clark G. was. At that time, his name was Puppy #55. Another family was interested in him. So Clark’s parents had to wait for that family’s decision.

After the Rescue center told the other family what is involved in caring for Clark G., they decided that this would not be the best match for their family. So that’s how Clark comes to be part of Marc and Jennifer’s family. The first night he was home, his mom noticed that he was scratching and crying all night. She experimented with different food, did a whole bunch of research and found the solution that stops Clark’s allergy. Now Clark G.’s diet is lamb and rice. Clark also learns the pecking order at home. There’s another dog named Layla, who gets to climb in bed first with their parents.

If you enjoy this video, here’s another Talking Dog video for you!

You might have watched videos of The Talking Dog. In this video, the Talking Dog is super excited about getting a kitten. The narrator builds up the excitement before he gets to the part about the kitten. The Talking dog just can’t stand the suspense anymore, even threatens to “chew off the arm of the sofa” if he doesn’t stop teasing him.

The voice-over is absolutely wonderful, matching the facial and body expression, and the LIP movement of the dog. A fabulous artist! Talking Dog’s name is Clark G. the dog. He was adopted by Jennifer and Marc. They adopted him from the Colorado Puppy Rescue after losing one of their dogs, writes Paul Bradley Smith. Marc and Jennifer searched online for shelter dogs.

How Talking Dog met his family

The dog Clark’s parents had originally wanted to take home was adopted by someone else, that’s how they ended up going to the Puppy Rescue where Clark G. was.

Pet Grooming Glove to remove hair gently

At that time, Clark G.’s name was Puppy #55. One other family was interested in him. Clark’s parents had to wait for that family’s decision. After the Rescue center told the other family what is involved in caring for Clark G., they decided that this would not be the best match for their family because Clark did have some special needs.

And that is how Clark came to join Marc and Jennifer’s family. And that’s how he changed his name from Puppy #55 to Clark G.

The first night he was home, Jennifer noticed that he was scratching and crying all night. She experimented with different food for Clark, did a bunch of research and found the solution that stops Clark’s allergy. Now Clark G.’s diet is lamb and rice. Clark also learns that there is a hierarchical order at home. Layla was with the family longer, so she gets to climb in bed first with their parents. Enjoy listening to this conversation.

It is so lovely to watch this dog crying with happiness to see his Mom home. It’s so endearing the way he rests his paws on Mom’s leg and leans against her. I don’t know how dogs deal with long departures like this. Somehow I have a feeling thoughts of her beloved dog has carried this soldier through many a tough moments.

Witness this touching reunion at the airport.

How heart-warming to watch these dogs welcoming soldiers home! Imagine coming home after several years and being welcomed like this by your beloved friend. I can imagine these soldiers thinking about their beloved dogs when they are away from home, and eagerly waiting for that moment when their loyal pals welcome them home.

Listen to some of these dogs crying with joy and excitement. All of them are touching scenes. But the one I particularly like is toward the end, when a Golden Retriever greets her Mom at the airport with tenderness. What a special bond this dog has with Mom.

How dogs remember people after a long absence

These video clips show that our dogs have no trouble recognizing us after several years of absence, and even if our face change a little. How do they do that?

Caryn Anderson shares some insights on this topic in The Nest. She includes data from PBS.org that dogs have up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, whereas we have around 6 millions. That’s 50 times more than we do!

Fence Bubble Window For Pets

Not only this, the part in a dog’s brain that is responsible for analyzing smell is 40 times greater than what we have–that is proportionately speaking. On top of this, dogs have an olfactory memory. They remember scents long after he smelled them. That’s just for the sense of smell.

At the University of Padua, Italian researchers found that dogs rely on their eyes to tell who we are. Even more than the sense of smell. Now, let’s say the dog has become less visually able. He would still be able to recognize you through their smell. So don’t you worry that your beloved friend would ever forget you, however long you may be away. You may consider leaving a shirt you wear often when you are away for a while, so your dog can find comfort through your scent. Enjoy watching this heartwarming video of dogs who are overjoyed welcoming their soldier mom and dad home.

If this video warms your heart, watch this next one with a dog greeting his soldier Mom!

In this video, we witness what doggie school does for Lottie the Goldendoodle. I appreciate having dogs run free and be themselves. And I’ve seen what service dogs “give up” in order to make someone’s life more independent. And I don’t mind dogs jumping up to greet me. However, after watching this video of what Lottie learned in doggie school, I can understand the benefits of going to training schools.

Although this blog was originally published on November 25, 2016, the content remains as valid today.

I am glad the video compares what Lottie did before and after doggie school. I can understand the concern of an enthusiastic puppy jumping up on a small child and knocking them over. I see how a trained dog can go anywhere with us, and we don’t have to worry about how they interact with strangers.

There’s a woman who goes to the same beach I do. Her dog barks whenever she wants her way, and the woman always gives in. When she went on vacation, her dog stayed in a boarding / training school, and learned to follow some commands. The owner recommends that this woman brings her dog back for additional training, as well as to “transfer” the command skills to her, so that her dog would listen to her.

Unfortunately, the woman did not follow the recommendations. Everytime her dog barks incessantly to get her way at the beach, it disturbs others who just want some peace and quiet.

I wish she had taken her dog back to the training school.

This video is the first year with Goldendoodle Brody. Actually, Brody is a mini Goldendoodle. The video starts with Brody’s first day home. It’s a mix of photos and video clips. Brody chasing a child in the yard. Brody learning to be chased by Mom. He must be an outdoor dog. Although this blog was first published on October 22, 2016, the video quality is still as good.

The video goes on to show Brody using the slide, having the wind blow in his face during a car ride. He opens his mouth as if to catch some wind. He loves digging in the backyard too. And running through raked leaves. This is one happy dog.

Goldendoodle tends to be good-natured, and make a good family dog, a good companion dog. Some are quieter than others. It’s a good idea to give them plenty of exercise. Once in a while, they get into an energy burst and run around as if someone’s chasing them, for no reason at all. But that’s what amuses us.

Enjoy this video down memory lane to celebrate Brody’s first birthday! If you like this video, here is one of a Goldendoodles going to puppy school.

The Pitbull in this video loves it when his Dad plays the guitar. His name is Doogie. The lyrics of the song were written for Doogie. Part of it says “Doogie would you like to go outside? Doogie would you like a cookie?” Doogie recognizes those words and kisses his dad. What an affectionate dog, to wrap his arms around his dad’s shoulders when his dad is playing the song for him.

How does music affect dogs?

Patricia McConnell did research on the effect of music on dogs. Dogs who stay at shelters have been observed to respond differently to different kind of music. Classical music that feels soothing brings out more calming behavior and less barking. Heavy metal music does the opposite. Patricia does not want to generalize the finding, so she digs deeper into other research available on the topic.

What she found was that if the tempo of the song matches the resting heart rate (or breathing) of a dog, the effect tends to be a calming one.

Dog Pool Collapsible by Jasonwell

If the note is longer, it tends to be more calming. Like when you say to a dog “Sta-a-a-a-a-ay) And when the note is staccato (short, repeated) kind of jumpy, as when you say to a puppy “puppy puppy puppy puppy”.

Some dog owners keep the music on when they leave home for work to keep the dogs company. When they are around to watch their dogs’ response to different types of music, they observe similar results as Patricia. However, the effect also varies from individual to individual. That makes sense, not all humans prefer classical music. And not all classical music is calming. Some people do play calming music near bedtime to help their dogs transition from playtime to slowing down for the night. You can read more about Patricia’s research here. Enjoy watching the sweet interaction between Doogie and his Dad.
